His Mommy’s Heart©
The sound was very faint and weak,
Amongst the dump debris…
It sounded desperately plaintive,
And hopelessly weary.
Searching for the source
Of this wistful little cry,
Inside a bag of sheetrock,
A tiny pair of eyes…
Looking from behind
A ball of reddish fur,
Was the tiniest little kitten,
Too young to even purr.
His bones were showing through,
even with all that hair,
he obviously was starving,
how long had he been there?
A home was soon found,
For this tiny little waif,
A lady with a heart of gold
Made little “Dumpy” warm and safe.
Too young to be from his birth mom,
he needed special care.
He didn’t even know how to eat,
But his new mommy was aware.
She fed him like his birth mom would,
Around the clock with ease,
Mom and Dumpy bonded,
Easing his anxiety.
As the days and weeks went by,
Little Dumpy filled out and grew,
He loved his little pompom balls,
And anything else he could get into.
If he couldn’t find his mommy,
He would let out anxious cries,
And go in search of the one he loved;
The mom he idolized.
He would stand on his two hind legs,
And lift his arms up high,
Asking to be lifted,
And with a contented sigh,
Would snuggle up in mommy’s arms,
Peering over her shoulder,
Letting his little legs dangle,
Regaining his composure.
He loved and comforted his mommy,
Sleeping with her each night,
And loved to play the game of
Chasing beams of light.
As the months and years went by,
Dumpy became quite brave.
He loved to play the tough guy,
With his siblings, he would not behave.
Dumpy was unconditionally loved,
And he returned the same,
He was his “mommy’s heart”,
Through her grief she did proclaim,
When Dumpy went to Rainbow Bridge
A “kitty angel” he became.
Lord, you called my little baby home,
Please give him all your love;
Please let him know he’s sorely missed,
As he romps in your kingdom above.
